About The Position

The Patient Access Coordinator acts as a shift lead, mentor, and provides updates to the department operations team. Functions may include pre-registration, registration, financial clearance/advocacy, insurance management, estimates and health insurance enrollment. Under the direction of the Patient Access Supervisor/Manager, the coordinator will onboard new hires, providing training to department process, policy, and procedure; routinely mentors staff and provides follow-up training as needed. In addition, the coordinator will assist the Patient Access Supervisor by monitoring workload, process, and performance as well as delegate tasks and functions to ensure the department meets/exceeds performance metrics. They will work with leadership to create and maintain department resource materials and serve as the first point of contact for case escalation and daily operations. As needed, the coordinator will complete functional tasks, working to augment staffing as volumes increase or during times of short staffing. The coordinator must have the ability to resolve issues independently, provide guidance and support, serving as the content expert for their team. The coordinator may be assigned special tasks by the supervisor/manager and is expected to provide direction in lieu of the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree. A minimum of 3 years relevant health care experience combined with education may be substituted.
  • Requires 3 or more years’ experience in a leadership role, preferably in Access/Scheduling/Registration, Billing, and Financial Counseling with a customer service orientation.
  • Requires demonstrated ability to diffuse angry customers and handle pressure with excellent verbal communication skills.
