What to expect as a Patient Access Clerk: Welcome patients and visitors to the department by greeting patient and visitors in person and on the telephone, answers inquiries or refers questions to other staff members when needed. Conduct patient interviews in a confidential manner. Verify demographic and financial/insurance information with patient or patient’s representative, updating when necessary. Verify insurance information, benefits, and eligibility for patients receiving care with our hospital. Coordinate with utilization review when necessary. Ensure authorization numbers are obtained for scheduled out-patient services; such as MRIs, CTs, Nuc Med, Stress-Tests, etc. Escort in-patient to his or her room. Directs out-patients to the correct department(s), escorting them when necessary. Work with surgical scheduling to pre-register patients for ODS procedures. Reconcile information systems data by editing registrations performed by support ancillary service registrars. Create new providers in the Clinical Dictionary when presented with an order from a provider that has never used our facility for out-patient services; complete with Provider Type, Name, Address, Phone and Fax Numbers, and NPI Number. Perform semi-annual OIG Reviews on all Providers to check for infractions. Perform other related duties as assigned.
