About the position

The Patient Access Clerk provides patient access and administrative support to the Patient Access Department which includes, processing of patient pre-admission, admission, transfer, and discharge activities under the guidance and supervision of the Patient Access and Health Information Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient pre-admission, admission, transfer, and discharge activities.
  • Perform general office duties including filing, faxing, printing, and data entry.
  • Upload documents accurately and maintain organized and up-to-date patient charts in compliance with office protocols.
  • Work under the guidance of Patient Access Supervisor.
  • Collect and validate patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Respond to patient concerns and inquiries professionally.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with patients, physicians, visitors, and hospital staffs.
  • Work in compliance with policies and procedures and adheres to government regulations.
  • Update various tracking systems (i.e., referral logs, admission calendar, and status logs).
  • Update patient status in Electronic Medical Record System (EMR) such as admissions and transfers.
  • Coordinate delivery and pick up of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) with vendors, hospital, family, staff and others as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Equivalent demonstrated experience a plus.
  • Basic computer proficiency is required in MS Office Suite.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience highly preferred (i.e. Netsmart or similar systems).
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
  • Able to hear, speak, read, write, and/or type well enough to perform required job duties.
  • Able to communicate well in English (spoken and written) is required.
  • Able to use a computer to perform required job duties.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Able to use standard business office equipment safely.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time while conducting work assignments.
  • If driving on YoloCares business, must have a valid California driver’s license and state-required automobile insurance.
