About The Position

The Biorepository and Laboratory Services is seeking a Pathology Resource Technologist to perform and manage simple and complex experimental/laboratory tasks independently within the laboratory and tissue bank and to provide services or laboratory results for customers/investigators for use in research projects related to the treatment and prevention of cancer and cancer-related diseases in a timely, accurate and dependable manner. Candidate will dissects gross tissue; load and operate tissue processor; embed tissue into paraffin blocks; cut blocks using microtome or cryostat to make slides or to make cores; performs simple staining procedures, special staining, immunohistochemistry, macromolecule extractions from fresh/frozen and formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue samples; design and build tissue microarrays (including compiling and maintenance of data associated with the design, case information and inventory). Candidate will cover tissue procurement (remnant tissue that is not needed for diagnostic purposes). Handling of fresh tissue including procurement, process, distribute & tissue banking. Pull frozen tissue specimens from the freezers and prepare frozen tissue sections using cryostat to prepare H&E stained slides for QC process and maintain slide archives. Candidate should be able to work individually (later hours) and/or as part of team during regular hours. Remote work is not an option. Salary range is $53,357 to $67,810.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science; or
  • Associate’s degree in a biological science and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience as a Histotechnician, Histotechnologist I [Roswell Park], Histotechnologist II [Roswell Park], and/or as a Pathology Resource Technician [Roswell Park]; or
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of four (4) years of full time experience as a Histotechnician, Histotechnologist I [Roswell Park], Histotechnologist II [Roswell Park], and/or as a Pathology Resource Technician [Roswell Park]
  • NOTE: Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
  • Histology and/or tissue handling experience
  • Demonstrated high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience working in a research laboratory
  • Experience with information management systems/databases/computer skills
  • Experience troubleshooting equipment errors and coordinating with vendor/technical support
  • Experience in tracking project progress and multi-tasking
