Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Biological, Chemical or a related Laboratory science, including medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution.
  • Education includes at least 60 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses OR 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
  • Bachelor's Degree 4-Year Bachelor of Science degree (i.e. chemistry, biology, biochemistry, medical laboratory science) having the required science hours required by CLIA to perform high complexity testing is required.
  • Related experience to include grossing small biopsies and complex surgical cases within 1 year is preferred as well as experience cutting frozen sections.

Nice To Haves

  • PA (ASCP) upon hire is preferred.
  • Meeting Grandfathered certification requirements prior to 2010 by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) upon hire is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete dissection, gross description, selection and submission of tissue for microscopic examination and special studies such as flow cytometry and/or immunohistochemical staining.
  • Interact with the pathologists and carry out their duties under the direction of the Pathologist, maintaining high ethical standards and integrity in performance of their assigned duties.
  • Photograph gross and microscopic specimens, help prepare educational conferences and provide training to pathology personnel, including pathology residents and medical students.
  • Work as liaison to other departments and laboratories to ensure quality healthcare.
  • Other duties as assigned.
