About The Position

The Pathologist Assistant provides essential support to the Department of Anatomic Pathology, focusing on the Gross Room Area. This role encompasses administrative, personnel, and technical quality control/quality assurance functions. The Pathologist Assistant is responsible for training personnel, maintaining laboratory procedure manuals, and ensuring compliance with established protocols. Additionally, the position involves assisting in the dissection of human surgical specimens and postmortem examinations under the supervision of Pathologists.

Requirements

  • Certified as a Pathologists' Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or certification eligible (must be certified within one year of entry into position).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Life or Health Science from an accredited program plus 3 years of approved on-the-job training work experience; or a Master's Degree in Science from an accredited Pathologists' Assistant Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience as a Pathologists' Assistant in an academic setting.
  • Experience in histologic and histologic procedures, dissection, and laboratory management.
  • Experience in the preparation and performance of human surgical specimen dissection and autopsy dissection.

Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative, personnel, and technical QC/QA functions in the Gross Room Area.
  • Provide technical instruction to personnel, residents, and students, documenting training and competency.
  • Maintain laboratory procedure manuals and ensure compliance with all areas.
  • Assist in the preparation and performance of human surgical specimen dissection.
  • Assist in the preparation and performance of human postmortem examinations.
  • Supervise personnel, manage day-to-day workflow, and oversee equipment maintenance and supply procurement.
  • Communicate regularly with the Manager/Director regarding workflow and personnel issues.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for weekend autopsy coverage.
