Southern California Permanente Medical GroupLos Angeles, CA

About The Position

Kaiser-Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center is seeking an AP/CP board-certified pathologist with additional training and board certification in Blood Banking & Transfusion Medicine, to oversee a large clinical laboratory and Blood Bank in a tertiary/quaternary hospital with a busy cardiovascular surgical service. The successful candidate is expected to provide clinical pathology leadership across core laboratory disciplines, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-centered diagnostic services. Responsibilities include oversight of laboratory quality management, test utilization, regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP, FDA, and state), method validation, and continuous performance improvement. The pathologist will collaborate closely with clinical departments to support evidence-based test ordering, interpret complex results, and serve as a consultative resource to clinicians across specialties. Occasional coverage of surgical pathology may also be required. As the laboratory leader, the candidate will also lead the hospital’s laboratory stewardship and patient blood management programs and represent Los Angeles Medical Center on relevant Southern California Permanente Medical Group regional committees. The successful candidate will teach medical students during pertinent rotations at the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine and participate in educational conferences for residency and fellowship programs at Los Angeles Medical Center. There will also be an opportunity to pursue a faculty appointment at KPSOM. CP-only board certification with Blood Bank/Transfusion Medicine board certification may be considered if the candidate has at least three years of post-training experience. While we prefer an applicant with experience directing a laboratory, we are open to promising and rising talent within the field of Lab Medicine. The city of Los Angeles offers one of the world’s great urban experiences. Opportunities to enjoy pro sports, entertainment, cuisine, and the arts are virtually endless, with the variety to satisfy its incredibly diverse population.
