Under the general supervision of a pathologist, prepares surgical specimens for examination, dictates test results, operates photographic equipment, and performs other related duties. Performs gross dissection, dictation, microscopic examination, frozen section cases, clinical histories and examination summaries. Assists with histology preparation of specimens.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in biology.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Pathologist's Assistant program.
  • Three to six months job related experience to become familiar with a variety of procedures, techniques and equipment used in performing activities.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately processes surgical pathology specimens including properly fixing, cutting, photographing, and sectioning of surgical specimens.
  • Writes and maintains procedures of section in compliance with CAP guidelines.
  • Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens.
  • Follows established guidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent or specimen problems.
  • Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety.
  • Participates in staff meetings, helps promote effective working relationships.
  • Uses Patient/Family center values/Conducts all work activities with respect of the rights and wishes of patients, visitors and patients families.
  • Monitor Copath interfaces for proper performance.
