When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you're making a difference in people's lives.The Pathologists' Assistant is specifically trained in the gross examination, dissection and submission of specimens for histologic evaluation for all commonly received specimens in the Histology Laboratory.Job Description:Duties/ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of a board-certified Anatomic Pathologist, the Pathologist Assistant is responsible for:Gross description and dissection (examination of surgical tissues).Submission and preparation of specimens for histologic and other laboratory testing.Gross specimen photography.Process improvementProcessing of frozen sections and/or touch preparations for rapid interpretation.Training of new employees within the appropriate scope of practice as necessaryTechnical review and writing of relevant procedures with the Anatomic Pathology ManagerAttendance at all relevant meetingsMaintaining equipment in work areaAbiding by Hospital and Laboratory policiesMaintaining a clean work environmentParticipation in organization of conferences It is understood that this is a summary of key job functions and does not include every detail of the job that may reasonably be required.Education/Experience RequiredA minimum of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, plus successful completion of an NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.Able to communicate effectively and work well with laboratory personnel and the pathologists on staff, as well as key individuals outside the department.Registration/CertificationPA (ASCP) required or eligible and in process.Qualifies for high proficiency testing, meeting the CAP standards for performing gross dissection.
