About The Position

Join our Laboratory-Surgical Pathology team and be a part of our State of the art gross room! Shift: 11:30pm-8pm M-F No Weekends! Holiday rotation possible rotations to frozen sectionsites and other offsite locations Overview Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Role Purpose This position provides Anatomic Pathology services under the direction and supervision of a pathologist. The Pathologists' Assistant works independently using the medical knowledge to perform human specimen examination for diagnosis and patient treatment. The Pathologists' Assistant functions in support of and as an adjunct to the physicians in Pathology.

Requirements

Master's Degree - PATHOLOGIST ASSISTANT STUDIES
2-5 years Experience
No Supervisor Experience

Nice To Haves

5-10 years Experience
ASCP Licenses & Certifications

Responsibilities

Specimen Processing: Prepare, describe, dissect, and photograph surgical tissue specimens; ensure accurate accessioning and prepare tissues for histologic processing.
Technical and Frozen Section Support: Assist with frozen section procedures, including tissue cutting, slide staining, and specimen transport.
Research & Tissue Banking: Identify and collect normal and tumor tissue samples for the Tumor Bank to support both clinical care and research initiatives.
Education & Professional Development: Contribute to training of residents and PA students; participate in ongoing education and professional development through programs, workshops, and literature review.
Quality Assurance & Professional Development: Ensure equipment maintenance, cleanliness, and supply levels; uphold departmental policies and standards, and actively participate in educational and professional development activities.
