About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Pathologists, examine and prepare specimens for microscopic evaluation by providing gross description and dissection of surgical pathology specimens ranging from biopsies to complex resections. Perform additional special handling of the specimens, including but not limited to flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, radiology or tissue procurement for research. Perform frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations within established protocol and procedural parameters. Determine proper fixative solutions in which tissue may need to be maintained. Photograph all pertinent gross specimens. Adhere to all policies and procedures related to handling, storage and disposal of all specimens while adhering to regulatory and compliance standards regarding biohazard and safety. Assist with training of pathology residents, PA students and pathology technician II’s (when applicable). Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper safety and cleanliness protocols are followed. Ability to communicate clearly, work in harmony with other departments and collaborate effectively in a team. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.
  • ASCP Certification (PA, Pathologists’ Assistant) or exam eligible (within 1 year of hire).

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to operate a cryostat, cassette printer, safety hood, bone saw, voice recognition software, camera, computer and fax machine.
  • Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel).
