About The Position

Responsible for the 'Gross' examination of all routine tissues; processing frozen section specimens for the Pathologist; provides dissection assistance in the Frozen Section Laboratory after the case has initially been assessed by the Pathologist; primary prosector for autopsies, responsible for dissection and dictation for autopsy cases. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an Approved Pathologists' Assistant Program or equivalent experience.
  • Technical and operational knowledge of the Frozen Section Lab and pathology procedures.
  • Ability to use both hands adequately.
  • Ability to distinguish color.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to handle contact with deceased patients.
  • Ability to use a microscope and handle clinical instrumentation.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to chemical vapors from formaldehyde, acids, bases, and alcohol.
  • Ability to tolerate low-level exposure to Ionizing radiation, such as Technesium and Prostatic Seeds.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to microwaves.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to infection hazards such as blood borne pathogens and CJD.
  • Ability to handle skin contact with solvents and other chemicals.
  • Ability to work around machinery with moving parts.
  • Ability to work with immunosuppressed patients, particularly CJD, and frozen section specimens.

  • ASCP board of registry certification.
  • Current with ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) Certification Maintenance Program.
