About The Position

TKD is seeking an experienced Patent Paralegal for patent prosecution work and backup trademark prosecution, who will be responsible for providing support and assistance to patent attorneys in the Intellectual Property Department. The Patent Paralegal will be responsible for helping manage the department’s caseload of private clients while meeting the unique needs of each attorney. With all our personnel, we are looking for a team player who can provide effective, high-quality paralegal support and give high-touch, personable assistance to support our attorneys, clients, and colleagues with professionalism, establishing and fostering strong connections within the firm, our clients, business partners, prospects, and guests.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent. 4 years College degree preferred.
  • 5 years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding and advanced proficiency of task-specific patent prosecution concepts, procedures, and best practices.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written communication, analytical, planning, and proofreading skills.
  • Detail-oriented, efficient, and reliable.
  • Maintains a “can do” attitude, patience, and a positive team player mentality.
  • Ability to work both independently, with a team, and in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and handle multiple projects and shift priorities simultaneously.
  • Works effectively with various types of clients.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams; iManage, and Adobe.
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of trademark filing procedures in the US Patent and Trademark Office is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately completing work assigned by multiple attorneys, including:
  • Assisting with the preparation of provisional, non-provisional and design patent applications as well as filing of such applications in the US Patent and Trademark Office and WIPO. Knowledge and proficiency with USPTO Patent Center; Preparing and filing responses to Office Actions, assignments, and other documents with the USPTO;
  • Preparing documentation for filing patent applications in other countries;
  • Working with the attorneys to ensure all due dates are met in advance;
  • Assisting attorneys and clients in managing patent portfolios and matters.
  • Establishing and maintaining electronic files according to current firm policies utilizing the firm’s record protocol procedures and document management system.
  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or needed. Proactive in balancing multiple work demands, taking personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of their work, and maintaining client and Firm confidentiality.
