About The Position

Parent Educator is responsible for conducting in-home visitation services with Parents as Teachers curriculum. Under direct supervision of the Program Manager, this role provides reflective supervision, administrative duties, ongoing continuous quality improvement, training, group connections, and in-home educational services to families, as well as information/referrals to support and assist parents with the tools to promote healthy child development in the early years of life. Parent Educator will provide guidance to parents by supporting them to become their child's first teacher. This involves teaching the parents developmentally appropriate evidenced-based curriculum customized for the specific needs of their family to promote optimal growth and brain development.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years' experience working with individuals or communities from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.
  • GED or high school diploma.
  • Education or training in a related field such as child development, family studies, psychology, social work, or similar preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance card or obtain prior to start of employment.
  • Complete CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days of hire and maintain certifications throughout employment.
  • Knowledge of infant/child development, parent-child attachment, behavioral health dynamics, and child abuse/neglect.
  • Knowledge of strength-based, family-centered prevention services.
  • Ability to identify family strengths, set goals, and advocate for resources.
  • Knowledge of community resources and how to connect families to needed services.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including being nonjudgmental, objective, reflective, empathic, patient, and tactful.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to promote clear understanding.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work independently, while also collaborating effectively within team dynamics.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish/Navajo/Hopi/Supai) desired.
