About The Position

The Pastry Chef at Hyatt's Thompson Savannah is responsible for managing daily pastry operations, ensuring high-quality and consistent pastry production, and enhancing guest satisfaction through exceptional service. This role requires a blend of creative baking skills and leadership abilities to supervise staff, maintain food standards, and develop new pastry items while adhering to budgetary constraints.

Requirements

  • 3 years previous culinary experience required, preferably in a hotel setting.
  • High school diploma or GED; 6 years experience in culinary, food and beverage, or related professional area.
  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major; 4 years experience in culinary, food and beverage, or related professional area.
  • Refined verbal communication skills.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily pastry operations and supervise all pastry areas.
  • Exhibit creative baking and decorating talents while leading staff in preparing quality pastries.
  • Monitor sanitation and food standards to ensure compliance.
  • Identify developmental needs of staff and provide coaching and mentoring.
  • Communicate performance expectations and maintain open relationships with team members.
  • Lead shifts while personally preparing food items and executing requests.
  • Develop, design, or create new ideas and items for the pastry kitchen.
  • Prepare and cook foods for special guests or functions and create decorative food displays.
  • Respond to and handle guest problems and complaints, ensuring high customer satisfaction.
  • Set and support achievement of culinary goals associated with pastry products.
