The Faith Formation Coordinator supports the Director of Pastoral Ministry in forming children and their families in the Catholic faith for South Seattle Parish Family (St. Edward, St. George, St. Paul, St. Peter) This role includes coordination of Children’s Faith Formation ministries and Sacramental Preparation programs as well as ministry to the families involved. The PA for Faith Formation will help to create a welcoming and engaging environment for young children and their families. The position includes recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers involved in these ministries and ensuring programs reflect the mission, values, and catechetical guidelines of the Parish Family and the Archdiocese of Seattle. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES I. Early Childhood Faith Formation (Preschool through 5th Grades) Develops, implements, and coordinates Faith Formation programs for children and their families. Teaches classes as needed. Ensures a safe, welcoming, and faith-centered environment for children and their families. Plans for and implements programs in support of parents/guardians (i.e. parent groups) and creates a welcoming environment for families (i.e. kid bags, Pew Arts, etc.). Helps plan family-oriented liturgical (i.e. Christmas pageant) and catechetical events throughout the year (i.e. Advent wreath-making, Lenten activity, etc.) II. Sacramental Preparation (Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Communion, OCIA) Coordinates infant and child Baptism preparation, including parent classes and scheduling. Coordinates program for children and families preparing for First Reconciliation and First Communion. Directs the Sacramental Preparation program for children, OCIA adapted for Children. Maintains accurate sacramental preparation records and collaborates with parish administrative staff on documentation. Teaches classes as needed. III. Volunteer Recruitment & Support Recruits, motivates, and supervises volunteers for children’s programs and sacramental preparation. Leads planning meetings related to Faith Formation programs and events. Ensures all volunteers meet Archdiocesan Safe Environment (VIRTUS) requirements. Organizes annual required Circle of Grace class for all students. Provides ongoing training, formation, and appreciation for catechists. Attends Faith Formation Commission meeting every other month. IV. Program Administration Communicates regularly with parents, families, and parish staff. Prepares parish communications related to Faith Formation and Sacramental programs. Ensures all learning materials are age-appropriate and in alignment with the Archdiocesan catechetical standards. Develops and administers budget for faith formation. Assures purchase and allocation of materials for faith formation program. V. Collaboration Works closely with the Director of Pastoral Ministry, parish clergy, and ministry teams to implement the mission of the parish family. Participates in staff meetings, formation events, and Archdiocesan trainings. Maintains a current level of knowledge and skills required to function as a Pastoral Assistant for Faith Formation by reading appropriate materials and attending workshops and conventions. Assures collaboration with the school’s religious education and faith formation activities. Attends community and parish meetings to promote faith formation objectives and activities.
