About The Position

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • 2 years of verifiable work experience and/or college education.
  • No driving violations involving alcohol or drugs within the past 3 years.
  • Pass the required background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Secondary School or College graduate.
  • Experience working on an on-call basis.
  • Experience with varying shift schedules.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Mechanical experience.
  • Conductors' certification in compliance with CFR 242.
  • Familiarity with the territory and commuter railroad experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe movement of trains by adhering to operating rules and practices.
  • Oversee on-train employees in service delivery according to Alstom service standards.
  • Manage the safe loading and unloading of passengers, assisting in boarding and detraining.
  • Address and resolve customer service issues, making necessary announcements for passenger comfort.
  • Collect lost personal items for lost and found pickup.
  • Utilize effective verbal communication skills to interact with passengers and crew members.
  • Secure movement orders and ensure understanding by the operating crew.
  • Maintain knowledge of operating characteristics, safety rules, and emergency procedures.
  • Physically move between train cars and manipulate heavy equipment as needed.
  • Ride the side of train equipment and safely get on and off as required.
  • Submit reports on movement delays, unusual occurrences, and mechanical defects.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents during operations.
  • Ensure compliance with train orders, signals, and railroad regulations.
  • Review instructions from dispatchers and discuss with train crew.
  • Inspect equipment on cars prior to departures.
  • Receive and transmit information via radio and telephone, and read bulletins and notices.
  • Assist train crews with coupling and uncoupling cars and minor repairs to railcars.
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings to ensure rail safety.
  • Comprehend color and hand signals and respond to visual symbols and signals.
