Leidos Inc. is currently seeking an experienced and highly qualified Pashto Linguist with additional proficiency in Dari or Urdu. The ideal candidate will possess strong verbal and written communication skills and will be adept at coordinating effectively with various offices and agencies within the US Intelligence Community. This role requires individuals to demonstrate excellent operational judgment and the ability to respond swiftly to high-priority data with minimal supervision. The linguist will engage in a comprehensive range of activities, including translation, interpretation, transcription, and summarization of materials. In terms of translation, the candidate must accurately translate reports and texts in both electronic and hard-copy formats, capturing not only factual content but also abstract language, intended implications, and nuanced meanings. The linguist should be able to reflect geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural elements in their translations, ensuring that word choice and expression adhere to the norms of the target language and the specific subject field. For interpretation, the candidate should be capable of providing accurate consecutive interpretation, with occasional requests for simultaneous interpretation. A good understanding of one or more regional dialects is essential. In transcription, the linguist will review audio or internet materials, transcribing them with a high degree of accuracy and expression. Excellent English-language written communication skills are necessary for preparing reports, and the candidate should also possess good understanding of regional dialects. In terms of gisting and summarizing, the linguist must be able to identify and accurately summarize both factual points and abstract concepts, triaging documentation to isolate pertinent and nuanced information. Mastery of reference materials and proficiency in computer skills, including MS Office, are required to produce written translations and products, along with sufficient internet skills for basic research. Excellent English-language verbal communication skills are also necessary for giving briefings. Candidates must attend and pass all sponsor-related training as a condition of employment. While no security clearance is required to apply, candidates must be able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph after passing the necessary tests. All candidates will be required to take and pass a language test administered by Leidos or an accepted commercial testing vendor. Familiarity with cable and IC report writing styles and specific USG classified databases is essential, along with strong briefing and writing skills. Candidates should also have knowledge of domestic and foreign travel requirements and be familiar with customer travel policies and procedures. Strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and good communication and customer service skills are critical, especially in processing high-volume travel requirements. Proficiency in multiple languages is highly desired.
