About The Position
The Party Chief Surveyor at Sterling Construction Company, Inc. plays a crucial role in managing a survey crew that conducts boundary, topography, right of way, and construction surveys for both public and private clients. This position is based in Salt Lake City, UT, and is integral to ensuring that all surveying activities are executed with precision and in compliance with state and federal laws governing land surveying and boundaries. The Party Chief Surveyor is expected to calculate lines and grades, maintain and verify GPS machine controls, and work closely with superintendents to supervise and schedule multiple crews across various projects. This role requires a strong understanding of professional surveying practices and the ability to provide accurate work control lines and elevations necessary for the correct installation of materials by construction crafts. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Party Chief Surveyor is tasked with preparing documentation of surveying activities, maintaining the condition and adjustment of surveying equipment, and supervising Surveying Technicians and Trainees. The position demands regular attendance and punctuality, as well as excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with engineers and other team members. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior surveyor or party chief role within the construction industry, along with field supervision experience. Proficiency in operating and maintaining total stations, GPS, and electronic levels is essential, with knowledge of Leica equipment being a plus. The role also requires familiarity with electronic data collection systems and processes, ensuring that all deliverables are thoroughly inspected for accuracy and correctness.
