Partner, Dorm Investor

Pear VCPalo Alto, CA
Onsite

About The Position

Pear VC is a venture capital firm that partners with founders from day zero, often before an idea, product, or team exists. They are former founders and operators who provide hands-on mentorship, recruiting support, and operational insights to help turn raw ideas into category-defining companies. Pear focuses on supporting founders to achieve product-market fit early on. Their early investments include industry leaders like DoorDash, Gusto, and Guardant Health. The firm is seeking a Partner to connect with world-class builders and find the next generation of iconic founders, welcoming them into the Pear community. This role specifically targets extraordinary builders at the earliest stages of their journey within and around the Stanford and UC Berkeley ecosystems. It is a high-agency position with the singular mission of identifying the best builders on these campuses. The Partner will serve as the face of Pear on campus, mapping the ecosystem and fostering deep, authentic relationships with future founders. While primarily focused on sourcing and community building, the role includes mentorship and training from an Investment Partner at Pear and participation in weekly Deal Flow conversations, offering access to leading early-stage investors.

Requirements

  • Deep passion for Sourcing: You have a good taste of what exceptional people are like and you genuinely love the "hunt" for talent.
  • Stanford Network & Respect: You are a figure that Stanford founders will have great respect for. You speak their language, understand their world, and have the credibility to be their first call when they start something new.
  • High Autonomy & Trusted Judgment: We trust you to work autonomously. This includes having full confidence in your independent judgment to identify "who" is a great founder and the agency to move deals forward without hand-holding.
  • Builder at heart: You have experience building things as a previous founder, early at a startup, or an organizer of some group. You’re exceedingly resourceful, and consistently find ways to do more with less.
  • Relationship builder: You’re approachable, optimistic, authentic, and easy to connect with.
  • Reliable and hyper organized: No matter how busy life gets, you don’t drop balls or leave people hanging.
  • Curious by nature: You operate from first principles, dive deep into how things work, and are constantly exploring new ideas, products, and markets with open eyes.
  • You do whatever it takes: You’re a high-agency problem solver. You break through walls to get stuff done and step up without hesitation.
  • Passionate to be great: You want to be known in the industry as someone who can find the most elite humans and be known as the one who found the next category defining company.

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in the startup/tech world.
  • Former venture backed founder.
  • Active involvement in on-campus startup communities.

Responsibilities

  • Build authentic relationships with students, founders, engineers, researchers, professors, and recent grads in and around the Stanford and UC Berkeley ecosystems with the goal of finding the top 1% builders on campus.
  • By attending, hosting, and organizing events, you will steer these builders to participate in our PearX program.
  • Act as the connective tissue between these builders and Pear, making sure we’re the first call when someone is thinking about starting a company.
  • Select, leverage and manage a group of student Fellows who can assist you in being the eyes and ears of campus while also organizing and running any programs to attract the top builders.
  • Find creative ways to connect and get access to these people, as there is no perfect way to do this job.
