About The Position

The Client Support Specialist for the Pathway Home - Interim Housing program is responsible for providing direct support to participants experiencing homelessness. This role involves program intake, ensuring compliance with eligibility guidelines, and offering crisis intervention and support in a safe environment. The specialist will work closely with participants to meet their daily needs and facilitate access to resources until permanent housing is secured.

Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills, including electronic and hard-copy record-keeping.
  • Knowledge of services provided by First Day and other social service organizations in the area.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to exercise mature and sound judgment as well as effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based programs.
  • Successful completion of background screening and an updated Tuberculosis Test.
  • Valid CA Driver's License, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Written and oral proficiency in Spanish.
  • Minimum two years of non-profit experience with the homeless population and/or case management.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a calm, friendly, and welcoming atmosphere at the Pathway Home facility.
  • Supervise daily operations of the interim housing program and provide support services to all participants.
  • Document all interactions and services in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Assist case management staff with participant support, including dorm inspections and meeting reminders.
  • Conduct checks of bed areas, outdoor grounds, and common spaces to ensure program compliance.
  • Monitor and document participant compliance with program rules and guidelines.
  • Coordinate on-site activities such as movie nights and partner events.
  • Address safety hazards and report irregularities to the Program Manager.
  • Provide conflict resolution through respectful communication and problem-solving strategies.
  • Obtain and input required participant information into HMIS within 72 hours.
  • Assist participants in creating and working towards a Housing and Services Plan.
  • Review and verify all intake information to ensure participants meet program eligibility criteria.
  • Respond to and schedule intake referrals received from DHS in a timely manner.
  • Conduct individual and group intake meetings to explain interim housing policies and procedures.
