About The Position

The Part-Time Tutor for Music at Lone Star College is responsible for tutoring and instructing students and community members in music and study skills. The role involves providing tutoring services, maintaining a conducive learning atmosphere, and supporting student academic success. The tutor will assist students in developing necessary study skills for post-secondary education, keep accurate records of tutoring sessions, and modify tutoring strategies to meet diverse learning needs. The position also requires interaction with LSC staff and faculty to obtain course materials and provide feedback on student progress.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in assigned discipline's subject matter.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Commitment to quality service to students.
  • Ability and commitment to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to work independently with little direct or continuous supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively delivers tutoring services to students at scheduled times, which may include individual or group sessions.
  • Posts and maintains a weekly schedule of available hours for student appointments.
  • Assists students with the development of study skills necessary for post-secondary education.
  • Keeps regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions.
  • Monitors and reviews student work, modifying and personalizing tutoring strategies to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
  • Facilitates the learning process by encouraging students to take responsibility for their progress.
  • Interacts with LSC staff and/or faculty to obtain necessary course syllabi or materials and to develop tutoring materials.
  • Delivers feedback to staff and/or faculty regarding student progress.
  • Continues professional education through research and review of relevant material relating to the assigned subject matter.
  • May assist with additional duties such as covering the Courtesy Counter, answering phones, organizing materials, and checking out resources.
  • Completes and submits required documents in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Actively participates in departmental meetings as required.
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.
