About The Position

The Sycuan Education Department is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and skilled Special Education Aide to join our team. This individual will work closely with our Resource Specialist Coordinator and all three centers (Early Program, K-5th, and 6th-12th) to provide personalized support to students with various disabilities, ensuring they receive the highest quality education in a safe, nurturing environment. Please be mindful that we only have a small handful of students to support. The ideal candidate will be someone who is patient, has exceptional tutoring skills, training in supports with students with disabilities, and passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Special Education, Instructional Aide/Assistant, or Paraprofessional Experience.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with children of different ages.
  • Previous experience working with children with special needs highly desirable.
  • Ability to work with children and adapt to the needs of children.
  • Ability to work effectively with parents, staff, and community representatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and directives.
  • Working knowledge of Office 365.
  • Ability to perform basic data entry.
  • Ability to routinely lift and carry 40 pounds.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism.
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours at a time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, push and pull.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to appear for work on time.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, encouraging attitude toward students with diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of special education principles, techniques, and practices preferred.
  • Must pass a background check and have a valid CPR and First Aid certification.

  • ABA training or experience.
  • Credits in Child Development/Psychology.
  • Experience with Differentiated Instruction.
  • Tutoring Experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities by monitoring, and supporting goals accommodations or modifications throughout the department.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with academic, social, and personal skills as directed by the special education Resource Coordinator and/or Director of Education.
  • Monitor and report on student progress towards academic and behavioral goals.
  • Assist with tutoring the adaptation of teaching materials and methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Facilitate inclusion strategies, as appropriate.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students by using positive reinforcement techniques, encouraging, motivating, and building confidence in students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other staff to support the well-being and educational success of students.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings and professional development sessions related to position.
  • Provide a safe environment for children by modeling positive behavior strategies, observing children's behaviors, enforcing expectations for behavior, and reporting any unusual situations and/or suspected abuse to the Education Department Director.
  • Support the Education Department by attending required meetings, trainings, workshops, conferences, events, community activities, and assisting with special projects as assigned.
