About The Position

The Part-Time Technologist C will perform service, maintenance, repair of equipment and ensure normal function of the studios daily. Requirements

  • Associate's degree required.
  • Candidates must have a background in goldsmithing, silversmithing, and/or jewelry fabrication.
  • 3-5 years experience in a related field or role.
  • Candidates must have basic computer skills, with some fluency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Background in goldsmithing/silversmithing/jewelry fabrication.
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, FDNY license for gas and welding, and chemical handling.
  • Highly motivated with good communication and organizational skills.
  • Capable of assisting in the maintenance of a safe, clean, and sustainable working environment in the studios.
  • Ability to work independently, and with a wide range of people and personalities.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, interpret, apply, and explain established protocols, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate proficiently and professionally in English.

Nice To Haves

  • FDNY license for gas, welding, and chemical handling preferred.
  • Experience with Rhino 3D preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Keep up with daily, weekly, and monthly tasks to ensure normal function of the studios.
  • Enforce proper health and safety procedures relating to all equipment and materials associated with metalworking processes.
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of tools, equipment and machinery.
  • Provide guidance to faculty and students to ensure safe and proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Ensure appropriate handling, storage, and disposal of studio chemicals.
  • Maintain, color code, inventory, and monitor a database of all tools and equipment used in the Jewelry design studios.
  • Oversee the signing-out of tools to students.
  • Respond to faculty requests regarding studio-specific jobs and tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of materials and supplies.
  • Complete routing and comprehensive inventories of all studio chemicals every four months.
  • Assist with the intake of donations, the set-up and take-down of exhibits, trade shows, and other events, as necessary.
  • Maintain MSDS books and files in both the Technicians office and the Jewelry Design studios so they remain up-to-date and complete.
  • Participate in meetings regarding the studios.
  • Assist with preparations for each new semester.
  • Assist in researching new technologies and equipment for the studios.
  • Be physically capable of lifting and moving 50 lbs.
  • Must remain flexible in terms of scheduling, since schedules are adjusted each semester to meet academic demands, and may also require weekend hours as well as the ability to cover for fellow technicians, as needed.
