About The Position

The Part-Time Student Success Advisor serves as an initial point of contact for First-Year student adjustment to university life. They help students clarify personal, academic, and career goals; assist with the development and evaluation of University Life and Skills Courses; academically advise students for course registration; monitor academic progress; and connect students to campus resources throughout their first year. Duties and Responsibilities: Advise students' course registration with ongoing monitoring of academic progress throughout the first year Provide first-year students with regular academic advisement appointments and maintain a working knowledge of other resources on campus for referrals. Must be knowledgeable of FERPA, Title IX, Campus Security and all other required university policies and procedures to guide students throughout the academic year. Maintain accurate records and files related to their respective caseload and conduct outreach to students to increase student retention and experience. Contribute to one of four functional areas - Pirate Pathway, Transfer Center, Curriculum/Training, or Undecided/Undeclared students. Instruct 1-3 sections courses offered to first-year students - "University Life (CORE 1001) or College Study Skills (SKILL 1104) Work New Student Orientations, assist with staff rotation at Open Houses & Pirate Previews (occasional weekend dates), and other collaborative initiatives with CAS, the Office of Admissions and the Office of Student Engagement.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience with college level academic advising/counseling in a Higher Education setting or an equivalent job experience
  • Experience with Student Information Systems (e.g., Banner, Compass, and Degree Works, Canvas)

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of holistic academic advisement and how it influences student success. Familiarity with counseling theory and principles.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. Ability to navigate online resources and platforms such as Compass, Degree Works, Banner, and Canvas.
