About The Position

The position involves reviewing and interpreting physicians' orders to ensure appropriate medication management for patients. The pharmacist will oversee the preparation and delivery of medications, collaborate with healthcare team members for optimal patient outcomes, and supervise pharmacy technicians and interns. The role also includes maintaining quality and safety standards, providing drug information, and participating in the training of pharmacy students and staff. The pharmacist must adhere to state and federal regulations and provide excellent customer service.

Requirements

• Pharmacy degree (BS or Pharm.D.) from an ACPE approved college of pharmacy.
• 3 years of hospital experience is preferred.
• Licensed, or eligible for licensure, pharmacist in Iowa. Must be licensed within 3 months of hire.
• BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
• Other certification if requested by direct supervisors/managers.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets physicians orders to assure that the drug, dosage form, and dose is appropriate for the patient's age, weight, and comorbidities.
• Oversees and/or participates in assuring appropriate medications are prepared and delivered to care areas in a timely manner.
• Works collaboratively with other healthcare team members to provide pharmacotherapy recommendations.
• Supervises and mentors technicians, interns, and students working during their shift.
• Maintains quality and safety in the department through completion of quality control checks.
• Provides accurate and timely responses to drug information questions.
• Participates in the orientation, instruction, and training of pharmacy students and other health professionals.
• Knowledgeable and adheres to State and Federal laws, regulations, and pharmacy policies.
• Provides professional, engaging customer service to all patients and healthcare providers.
• Performs other job functions as directed by the pharmacy manager/supervisor.
