About The Position

This position is responsible for performing cashier duties, assisting in maintaining the inventory, and providing assistance and information to customers at the Spirit Shop. This role requires communication and excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous experience working in a retail environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cashiering procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of receiving and shipping methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Knowledge of basic record keeping techniques.
  • Ability to operate point of sale technologies and receive money and make change accurately.
  • Ability to make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to reason/analyze, research, and resolve problems when necessary.
  • Ability to carry out duties with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate initiative.
  • Experience with account reconciliations.
  • Experience and strong skills in the use of MS Excel Spreadsheets and MS Word
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with various people on differing tasks or issues while maintaining a courteous, helpful, and professional demeanor.
  • ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information, analyze data, make assessments, and exercise good judgment to make decisions; possess ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus; and effective use of all forms of communication (oral, visual, auditory), including use of computers.
  • Be able to lift weights up to 10 pounds on a regular basis

Responsibilities

  • Orders merchandise for campus bookstore in accordance with established guidelines and procedures; receives, prices and shelves books and merchandise maintain books and merchandise in a clean and ordering condition under direct supervision of Spirit Store Manager.
  • Verifies Financial Accounts and processes purchases; prepares and processes requisitions as directed; processes invoices and purchase orders according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Opens and closes cash registers; operates cash registers for sales, returns and buybacks; receives monies and makes change; processes refunds and exchanges; opens and closes Spirit Shop as assigned.
  • Communicate with various campus departments and students to provide and receive information to facilitate delivery of goods and services.
  • Answers and directs telephone calls; assists and provides information to students, staff and others regarding books, merchandise, bookstore policies and procedures and other routine information.
  • Assist in organizing and promoting in-store events and setting up athletic events.
  • Assists in other Spirit Shop activities as needed; assists students and staff in acquiring textbooks and supplies; assists and participates in annual stock inventory.
  • Prepares and maintains various records and reports as necessary such as requisitions, accounts and stock records; enters data into computer to maintain accurate records of sales. Prepares on-line orders for mailing.
  • Trains and provides work direction and guidance to others as directed.
  • Learns and applies emerging technologies and advances as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized, and timely manner.
  • Participate in creation of a welcoming and educational environment.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
