The Part-time Skills Trainer for Project SEARCH is responsible for providing individualized support to interns with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities during their internship rotations. This role involves teaching competitive and marketable skills through systematic instruction, building natural supports, and developing accommodations. The trainer will communicate effectively with various stakeholders, perform task analysis, assist with vocational assessments, and implement job coaching plans. The position requires collaboration with consumers, employers, families, and other personnel to address training and employment issues. The trainer will also provide instructional support in a classroom and lab setting, practice positive reinforcement, and train students in essential employment-related skills. Attendance at training sessions and adherence to host business standards are also required.

  • Provide individualized support for interns during their internship rotation.
  • Communicate effectively with Project SEARCH Instructor, other skills trainers, and relevant personnel.
  • Perform specific task analysis for students struggling to learn tasks.
  • Assist with completing the Vocational Fit Assessment.
  • Carry out job coaching plans with students and other parties.
  • Problem-solve issues related to training and employment.
  • Provide instructional and employment training support.
  • Train students in grooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing, and behavior.
  • Provide travel training for job placement when necessary.
  • Attend training provided by school district personnel.
  • Participate in decision-making processes regarding training strategies.
  • Adhere to and promote standards of the host business.
  • Submit and complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Recognize and act concerning the safety and welfare of consumers.
  • Demonstrate accountability for work assignments and attendance.
  • Work as a productive team member with various stakeholders.
  • Protect the privacy of individuals and confidentiality of information.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
  • A minimum of three (3) years recent experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a formal classroom setting preferred.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of and experience in the appropriate subject matter.
  • Demonstrate effective people skills, communication skills, and professionalism.
  • Must be adaptable to working with individual and cultural differences.
  • Responsible for personal characteristics necessary to develop attributes consistent with the educational community.
  • Utilize sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Use Standard English in oral and written communication.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, email, and the internet preferred.
  • Show enthusiasm and a sense of humor.
  • Exhibit an overall positive attitude.
  • Standard rate schedule for non-regular (temporary, adjunct, substitute) and regular part-time employees.
