About The Position

OPEN UNTIL FILLED PAY: $17.66-$28.25 GENERAL PURPOSE To assist the Environmental Health Director in disease prevention and control within the community through conducting investigations of health related and environmental issues; inspections of local businesses; providing educational programs and materials; and the enforcement of state and local laws and policies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform inspections at food operations, vending locations, swimming pools/spas, and schools for compliance with state and local laws and health regulations. Investigate citizen complaints relating to public health. For example: unsanitary housing conditions, contaminated food, solid waste, water pollution, etc. Investigate and follow up on animal bites for rabies control. Conduct annual School Environmental inspections, as needed. Respond to workplace smoking complaints and follow state mandated laws/rules/procedures for inspections. Establish/maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Maintain regular and timely attendance. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Environmental Health Director.

Requirements

  • Possess and maintain a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or Environmental Health Specialist in Training (EHSIT) certification with the Ohio Department of Health’s Board of Sanitarian Registration.
  • Possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and vehicle with proof of insurance.
  • Have or be able to establish an understanding of the laws and rules of the Ohio Revised Code and the State of Ohio pertaining to food operations, vending locations, public swimming pools/spas, the Ohio Smoke Free Workplace Act, and school programs.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Be able to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds, as well as persons of all ages and lifestyle preferences.
  • At time of appointment, be at least 18 years of age, be eligible for employment in the U.S., and possess a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Have effective communication skills (written and oral).
  • Be able to perform mild physical effort as part of regular work routine including:
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Springdale residents, co-workers, volunteers, City officials, and outside agencies.
  • Have the ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Have the ability to adapt to change and be flexible in job performance.
  • Be able to properly handle and maintain confidential information.
  • This position involves frequent standing or walking in buildings (including staircases) and/or on natural terrain. Lifting or carrying of light-weight materials or equipment. Occasional periods of sustained effort.
