About The Position

The Shin Lab at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion is seeking a part-time Research Assistant to support cutting-edge neuroscience projects. Requirements

• Strong interest in computational coding/programming (MATLAB, Python) and data analysis.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Prior research experience in biology, neuroscience, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

• Degree or coursework in Neuroscience, Biology, or a related discipline (or equivalent training/experience).
• Prior experience in academic or research laboratory settings.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols.
• Maintain precise, well-organized records of experiments and tissue samples.
• Assist in rodent handling, brain anatomy research, and molecular techniques.
• Compile and analyze experimental data using MATLAB, Python, or other coding tools.
• Communicate findings clearly with other researchers.
• Ensure all procedures comply with research protocols and ethical standards.
• Manage laboratory supplies and assist with organizational tasks.
• Contribute to a well-functioning team environment.
• Other duties as assigned.
