About The Position

The Laboratory of Dr. Misha Kwasniewski in the College of Agricultural Sciences, Department of Food Science at Penn State, University Park campus, is seeking a temporary, part-time Research Assistant to support ongoing lab and field research projects related to fermentation sciences, wine chemistry and grape development.

Requirements

• Basic familiarity with chemistry and lab practices
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Aptitude and interest in learning new methodology
• Some progress toward a B.S. in a STEM related field such as food science or Chemistry

Responsibilities

• Assist with sample preparation and extraction
• Operate Lab equipment such as a spectrophotometer, HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) and GC-MS (gas chromatography mass spectrometer)
• Enter data using Excel or other programs
• Work with graduate students, post-docs and other lab members on ongoing projects as needed
• Occasional work in research and commercial vineyards planting vines and sampling
