About The Position

Under the supervision of the Animal Services Manager, assists with daily operations of the Brenham Pet Adoption and Care Center by performing administrative functions and providing quality customer service to all visitors and callers. Including providing support to the volunteer, educational, and community engagement programs. This is a part time position and works less than 20 hours per week. The pay for this position is $12.00 per hour. Must be 18 years of age or older. Valid Texas driver's license is required.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or its equivalent, and a minimum of three years of experience in an administrative setting required.
  • Experience providing professional and courteous customer service and resolving complex customer service issues.
  • Valid Texas driver's license is required.
  • Must be comfortable being around and interacting with animals.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and adapt to a quickly changing work environment.
  • Requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, as well as basic accounting and cash handling skills.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Work and Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Development and sustaining effective working relationships with co-workers and the community; and read and understand manuals, policies, and other documents.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with veterinary clinic, animal shelter or animal facility experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of local and state laws, regulations, and ordinances as they pertain to animal control; animal behavior is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs administrative duties for the department, including answering and routing incoming phone calls, greeting and guiding visitors, maintaining files, sorting and routing mail, accepting payments and fees;
  • Provides exceptional customer service to employees and the public, both in person and by phone, including identifying and responding to community concerns and needs;
  • Supports the relationship between the City and the community by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors and City staff;
  • Maintains confidentiality of animal, citizen and department related issues and information;
  • Assists the public with necessary paperwork for adoptions, lost pets, reclaims, surrendered animals, issuance of city animal licenses and permits, and all other animal matters, including preparing adoption forms and contracts, and preparing adoption packets;
  • Operates departmental software which includes entering data from Animal Control Officers, adoptions events, rescue organizations, and other Animal Services department events;
  • Assists with animal adoption events, including creating animal identification information, preparing adoption packets with proper vaccination coupons and tags, and
  • Attends community events outside of normal business hours when needed.
