About The Position

The Children’s Museum Houston (CMH) seeks a Parent Stars Educator to work with the Parent Stars team with the ongoing development and implementation of the Parent Stars program. Parent Stars is a parent engagement program that helps parents of school-age children understand how they can become integrally involved in promoting the science, math, and literacy learning of their children both at home and in the classroom. Throughout the school year, the Parent Stars team facilitates 170+ Family Learning Events in elementary and middle schools in the Greater Houston Area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with children and families in a variety of settings.
  • Knowledge of the principles of early childhood education and developmentally appropriate practice.

  • Bilingual preferred. (English/Spanish)
  • Detail-oriented and a team player.
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access, and other software packages.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to discern the sensitivity of internal/external communications in a large public organization and an awareness of the elements of public relations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends.
  • Ability to travel throughout the city and region to present Parent Stars programming in a variety of settings.

Responsibilities

  • Attends planning and other meetings as requested.
  • Stays abreast of trends, current events and other pertinent information in early childhood education and regularly attends professional development related to job duties.
  • Facilitates Family Learning Events in a variety of settings.
  • Works with Parent Stars team to complete necessary steps for set up, implementation and breakdown of Parent Stars events.
  • Serves as Parent Educator Lead at family learning events.
  • Communicates with Event Contact to ensure all items on event checklist are complete.
  • Effectively engages parents, children, and other attendees at events.
  • Shares information with program participants about other Museum offerings and directs them to appropriate Museum personnel for additional information.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all levels of management both internal and external to the Museum.
  • Participates in other Museum programs as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
