About The Position

Savannah Technical College seeks a Part-time, Professional Laboratory Assistant for the Paramedic/EMT program. The laboratory assistant will be responsible for setting up and breaking down of the skills lab. They will also observe students performing assigned psychomotor skills and evaluate their proficiency in order to develop the skills necessary to become employed in their chosen profession. This position will have duties at the Savannah and Hinesville campuses, and may require regular travel between Savannah Technical College campus locations. Duties include a flexible schedule, which may involve split teaching shifts. This position requires some supervision of students during skills practice.

Requirements

  • Must be currently certified as a Georgia AEMT or Paramedic.
  • Must have two years' work experience within the last 3 years as an AEMT or Paramedic and/or teaching.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and required insurability.
  • Must possess skill in oral and written communication.
  • Must possess basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, word; excel; power point; and email.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills to deal professionally with Savannah Tech employees, students, and visitors.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of the instructional program through use of student data and practical skills evaluations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current procedures in the Paramedic/EMT field and demonstrate the effective use of oral and written communication skills.
  • Follow approved course syllabus.
  • Monitor students' use of supplies, materials, and equipment, and ensure safety and security requirements are met in the laboratory/training area.
  • Assess equipment periodically and recommend appropriate modifications.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Maintain qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College System of Georgia Policy Manual.
  • Follow rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia and other policies and procedures established by Savannah Technical College.
  • Provide students with supervision and direction while lab skills are being conducted and evaluated.
