About The Position

This position provides supplementary academic and non-cognitive support to individual and small groups of students through tailored and targeted lessons. In addition, the Math Success Coach facilitates multiple sections of Statistics co-requisite college-level courses.

Requirements

  • At least 12 undergraduate credit hours in mathematics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to articulate in both small and large group settings and with diverse groups of people including co-workers, students, business contacts and at various levels from front-line to administration
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to multitask, to meet deadlines, to maintain and access paper and electronic files, to produce error-free final products, and to manage time and output
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Enthusiastic and dedicated to the challenges of helping other people
  • Ability to function collaboratively as part of a fast-paced, customer-oriented team
  • Professional in communication, appearance, relationships, and responsiveness
  • Positive attitude
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform with little or no direct supervision
  • Ability to pass a background check

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates IWCC's core mission, vision and values
  • Facilitate sections of Statistics co-requisite courses
  • Participation in weekly meetings aimed at student success
  • Mentor students from various courses as part of open lab
  • Correspondence with students via phone, email & text
  • Participation in committees and work groups within the math department
  • Assists in the development and implementation of academic and non-cognitive supports for students enrolled in math courses
  • Develops and maintains relationships with math faculty to enhance support resources, expand the student support network, and optimize the impact of student success initiatives
  • Collaborates with math faculty on ways to support students with their math-related academic pursuits
  • Aid in the continuous improvement of the co-requisite course for Statistics
  • Identifies non-cognitive challenges and potential risk factors, and provides tailored and targeted co-curricular supports and proactive outreach
  • Refers and connects students to and with relevant resources and services on campus, including those available in the Academic Resource Center as well as through Student Support and Outreach
  • Initiates, maintains, and tracks frequent contact with students on a variety of topics and through various means, including face-to-face meetings, email, and phone communication
  • Maintains accurate and timely records of student information
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
