About The Position

The Part-Time Maker Educator plays a pivotal role in inspiring and guiding learners of diverse backgrounds through hands-on, creative, and technical projects within a maker space or educational environment. This position focuses on fostering curiosity, problem-solving skills, and practical knowledge in areas such as electronics, woodworking, 3D printing, coding, and other maker disciplines. The educator will design and facilitate engaging workshops, provide individualized support, and ensure a safe and inclusive learning atmosphere. By encouraging experimentation and collaboration, the role aims to empower participants to develop confidence and competence in maker skills that can be applied in academic, personal, or professional contexts. Ultimately, the Part-Time Maker Educator contributes to building a vibrant community of makers who are enthusiastic about innovation and lifelong learning.

Requirements

  • Experience working in educational or maker environments, such as schools, community centers, or maker spaces.
  • Basic proficiency with maker tools and technologies, including but not limited to 3D printers, laser cutters, soldering irons, and coding platforms.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work part-time hours with flexibility to accommodate workshop schedules.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in STEM education, art, design, or related fields.
  • Experience designing curriculum or lesson plans for hands-on learning.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and best practices in maker spaces.
  • Previous experience working with youth or adult learners in informal education settings.
  • Knowledge of multiple maker disciplines such as robotics, woodworking, or digital fabrication.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver interactive maker workshops and activities tailored to various age groups and skill levels.
  • Assist learners in understanding and safely using maker tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Provide one-on-one guidance and support to participants by helping them to complete projects and overcome challenges.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maker space environment in compliance with safety standards.
