About the position

The Library Assistant position is a part-time role focused on providing essential library services in the children's department of the Main Library in Monroe. The role involves engaging with young patrons and their caregivers, creating programming, and maintaining library collections. The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic, tech-savvy, and possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively support library operations and enhance the experience of library users.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic paraprofessional library services in the children's department.
• Engage with patrons to meet their needs using library resources.
• Assist in maintaining the children's collection and library materials.
• Answer telephone queries and refer callers to appropriate departments.
• Maintain knowledge of library policies and procedures.
• Report unsafe or threatening conditions to security or administration.
• Attend staff development programs to enhance skills.
• Utilize customer service techniques to assist patrons in selecting library resources.
• Provide reader's advisory assistance to patrons of all ages.
• Assist in providing age-appropriate programs for children aged 0-12 years.
• Demonstrate effective use of library materials and databases to patrons.
• Conduct library orientations and tours as needed.
• Sort, shelve, and maintain accessibility of library materials.
• Record statistics accurately regarding library usage.

• 1 year of experience in a library or customer service role.
