About The Position

The Department of Oceanography and Natural Sciences (OcNS) at California Polytechnic State University Maritime Academy invites applications for a pool of part-time lecturers from our local geographic area. Positions are available as determined by need during the Fall and/or Spring semesters of the 2026–27 academic year. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience, and time base. Responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate lecture and/or laboratory courses in: Chemistry: General Chemistry (I and II) and related foundational courses Physics: Algebra-based and calculus-based general physics sequences, including courses for engineers Oceanography: Introductory and upper-division courses across all subdisciplines, including physical, chemical, biological, and geological oceanography Candidates with interdisciplinary expertise across these areas are especially encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Oceanography, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related field.
  • Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly.
  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate lecture and/or laboratory courses
