About The Position

SUMMARY: The Laboratory Assistant, under the direction of the Laboratory Director, Laboratory Manager, or Coordinator, is primarily responsible for specimen accessioning, which is the central focus of this role and must be performed with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Duties include the receipt, verification, labeling, and entry of urine, blood, and other clinical specimens in accordance with laboratory and CAP standards. Additional responsibilities include supporting clinical testing and assisting with clerical tasks as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree (or currently in progress) preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to follow written protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ability to work effectively with staff and clients.
• Ability to establish priorities and coordinate workflow activities as needed to support clinical operations.
• Ability to work independently, organize tasks, and meet established deadlines.
• Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
• Basic computer proficiency; experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) preferred.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and laboratory compliance standards.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize specimen accessioning activities, including receipt, verification, labeling, and data entry of urine, blood, and other clinical specimens.
• Follows lab procedures for specimen handling and processing, reporting, and maintaining records.
• Adheres to all lab quality control policies and documents all quality control activities.
• Understands and adheres to HIPPA regulations and requirements at all times.
• Follows established safety standards and procedures and complies with legal regulations.
• Reports to work on time for all scheduled shifts and completes entire shift.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support laboratory volume, projects and priorities.
