About The Position

The Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing all food service operations within a residential drug and alcohol treatment program. This position ensures residents receive nutritious, safe, and timely meals that support physical health, emotional stability, and recovery. The Kitchen Manager maintains compliance with all applicable health, safety, and licensing requirements while promoting a structured, respectful, and recovery-focused living environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current Food Handler’s Permit and/or ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in food service or kitchen management
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations
  • Ability to work effectively in a structured residential environment
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and time-management skills
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and professional boundaries
  • Ability to interact respectfully with residents in various stages of recovery
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 40–50 pounds
  • Ability to work in a commercial kitchen environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in residential treatment, healthcare, shelter, or similar 24-hour care environments
  • Familiarity with substance use disorder treatment programs
  • Supervisory experience

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and oversee daily meals and snacks for residents in a 24/7 residential setting
  • Ensure meals are served on a consistent schedule to support program structure and resident stability
  • Accommodate approved dietary, medical, religious, and cultural needs
  • Maintain appropriate portion control and nutritional balance
  • Ensure compliance with local health department, state licensing, and program regulatory requirements
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety standards at all times
  • Monitor food storage, labeling, expiration dates, and temperature logs
  • Prepare for and participate in licensing inspections and audits
  • Supervise kitchen staff, volunteers, and approved residents assisting with kitchen duties (if applicable)
  • Provide guidance and instruction to residents in a supportive, trauma-informed manner
  • Maintain professional boundaries while modeling respectful communication and accountability
  • Order food, supplies, and equipment within approved budget guidelines
  • Track inventory, minimize waste, and ensure cost-effective purchasing
  • Coordinate with administration regarding menu planning and dietary needs
  • Work collaboratively with residential, clinical, and administrative staff
  • Communicate food-related issues that may impact resident health or program operations
  • Support the program’s recovery-oriented structure and house rules
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records including menus, cleaning schedules, inventories, and compliance logs
  • Report safety concerns, maintenance issues, or incidents promptly per program policy
