About The Position

The Juvenile Justice Youth Development Specialist plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation and support of youth aged 12 to 20 who are involved in the juvenile justice system. This position focuses on providing guidance, advocacy, and positive role modeling to help these young individuals develop essential life skills and successfully reintegrate into their communities. The specialist works within DYS residential facilities, ensuring a safe and secure environment while promoting positive youth development through daily interactions and structured activities.

Requirements

• Capacity to establish rapport with youth and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to interact with individuals under physical and emotional stress.
• Capability to make quick decisions in emergency situations while remaining calm.
• Proficiency in gathering information and exercising discretion with confidential information.
• Successful completion of a Physical Ability Test (PAT).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate as part of a team to oversee and support youth in daily activities including education, leisure, and hygiene.

• Monitor and maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment, conducting security measures such as supervision rounds and head counts.
• Observe youth behavior and take appropriate action to prevent disturbances or self-harm, ensuring safety in compliance with policies.
