About The Position

Position: Part-Time Janitor Second Shift: 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. Ridge Ranch Elementary School Effective Dates: 2025-2026 school year Employment Terms: Part-time position No medical benefits At-will position; not associated with any collective bargaining association Report To: Principal and/or Head Custodian Building/Supervisor/Manager/Director Job Goal: To provide students, teachers, staff, and community members with a safe, clean, disinfected classroom and school conducive to the learning-development-playing environment. Qualifications: Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, walk, carry and lift for eight hours per day including overtime. Ability to lift 20-50 lbs. Must have a current valid New Jersey driver's license. Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity to perform required tasks. Ability to use minor tools including drill to fasten and remove screws and assemble furniture. Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work. Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities. Possess a Black Seal Fireman's License for Low Pressure boiler operation (preferred) Must obtain the Low-Pressure Black Seal License within two years of employment. Ability to be on call, after hours for emergency assistance to the building/school if needed Must be able to perform snow & ice removal with shovel, ice scrapers & walkway snow blowers. Must be able to speak, write and comprehend English. Must be able during the summer adjust work shift to perform summer cleaning on 1st shift Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Capable of climbing various size ladders & climbing wall mounted roof hatch ladders. Must have at least 3-5 years past experience in cleaning at a school facility environment or commercial.

Requirements

New Jersey resident or willingness to relocate.
Controlled substance testing and successful completion of criminal history background check are required of all applicants offered employment.

Nice To Haves

Possession of a High School diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

Possesses and demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform cleaning, disinfecting and custodial tasks.
Plans and prepares for assignments to ensure effective and efficient completion.
Responsible for daily work schedule assignment list.
Responsible for maintaining work cleaning cart and assigned custodial closet.
Must maintain all ready to use custodial supplies in the assigned custodial closet.
Cleans and maintains the school building and grounds including classrooms, library, halls, auditoriums, gyms, multi-purpose rooms, offices, teachers' room, copier room, storage rooms, boiler rooms & electrical/mechanical rooms. Also restrooms and boys & girls bathrooms as assigned on the day, evening, or night shift.
Keeps building and exterior premises, including sidewalks, walkways, driveways, courtyards and play areas neat and clean at all times.
Performs a daily security inspection check before and after one's shift.
Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity.
Responsible for snow removal. Using shovels, scrapers, salt spreaders, walk behind snow blowers and small back pack leaf blowers on sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, landings, steps as needed.
Raises the United States flag at or before 8 a.m. each school day and lowers it at or after 3:30 p.m.
Sweeps & mops classrooms & corridors, dusts furniture, cleans desks & chairs and all chalkboards, white boards.
Empties classroom-offices-bathrooms wastebaskets daily.
Cleans corridors after school hours each day and during the school day.
Scrubs fixtures, disinfects bathroom floors and toilets, empties and sanitizes all receptacles and drinking fountains on a daily basis.
Performs disinfecting of "touch spots" throughout the building: door knobs, railings, faucets, push/pull plates.
Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary. Also cleans mirrors daily. Secures any broken windows and reports to the principal or immediate supervisor/head custodian..
Makes minor repairs to buildings and premises when requested including assembling furniture.
Maintains the school grounds. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish and glass.
Empties exterior waste or recycle bins periodically when reaching full capacity.
Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
Maintains on a regular schedule all boilers, motors, and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing and records in the boiler log book and reports to immediate supervisors of any concerns.
Performs a variety of room arranging, equipment and furniture transporting, and storage and delivery tasks in the school.
Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal/head custodian/supervisor
Checks daily to ensure that all doors, locks and panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy and after building hours. Reporting any issues immediately to the supervisor.
Reports immediately to the Building Supervisor/Head Custodian and Principal any damage to school property.
Assumes responsibility for the general security of the building. Responsibility includes: the opening and/or closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
Assumes responsibility for the general fire safety of the building. Conducts periodic inspections of all electrical installations in the school to insure their safe condition following QSAC inspection lists.
Demonstrates human relations and communications skills.
Demonstrates possession of physical attributes required to perform all essential functions.
Change all HVAC filters in classrooms and roofs on a quarterly basis.
Cleans all visible HVAC vents on walls and ceilings.
Replaces all damaged, missing and soiled ceiling tiles immediately when seen and reports to immediate supervisor so tile stock can be reorder in a timely manner.
Maintain a log each month on all fire extinguishers by inspecting & initial monthly on attached tags.
Ability to work with wet/dry vacuums, carpet, floor & back pack hepa vacuums.
Ability to operate minor electromechanical equipment such as waxers, scrubbers, polishers and walk behind push lawn mowers.
To perform dusting of shelves, cabinets, and high window ledges on a regular basis.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Principal, Supervisor or Director of Buildings and Grounds.
