This is your opportunity to be part of a team that makes progress possible; supporting our customers, strengthening communities, and contributing to meaningful work on a global scale We are seeking a motivated, organized, and self-driven Part-Time Intern – Order to Delivery to join Caterpillar’s Integrated Components Division (ICD) in Boonville, Missouri. The Integrated Components Division plays a critical role in Caterpillar’s value chain by designing, manufacturing, and delivering the components that keep our machines performing in the world’s toughest environments. ICD is responsible for the production and supply of essential wear and maintenance components, including undercarriage systems, ground engaging tools, seals, hoses, couplings, fluids, filters, and related hardware. Through close integration with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and logistics teams, ICD ensures our customers receive reliable, high‑quality components when and where they need them. As a Part-Time Intern, you will work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team, supporting improvements within the Caterpillar Quality Management System (CQMS). Your work may include initiatives related to scrap reduction, document control, and data collection and analysis for process monitoring. You will also assist with efforts to improve safety and ergonomics, manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment design, facility layout, and the development of work standards. This position is based in Boonville, Missouri, with the expectation of working part time during the academic year and the potential to transition to full-time hours during the summer. Requirements

  • Analytical skills, initiating ideas, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, problem-solving, and critical thinking capabilities
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, theory, and engineering experience gained through projects, internships, and/or relevant work experiences
  • Fundamental understanding of engineering for a manufacturing environment, ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention
  • Organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ability to quickly gain, and effectively apply new skills & knowledge
  • Success in collaborating with others of diverse cultures, interpersonal styles, and abilities
  • Strong written, and verbal communication skills
  • Must be enrolled full time at a 4-year university/college in one of the following degree programs: Engineering Management, Industrial Engineering/Technology, Industrial Distribution, Manufacturing Engineering/Technology, Manufacturing Systems, Mechanical Engineering/Technology, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, or General Engineering
  • Minimum 3.0/4.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (no rounding) at current institution
  • Expected graduation date of May 2027 or later
  • Applicant must attend 4-year university within a daily commute driving distance to the facility in which they will be working (Boonville, Missouri)
  • Must be able to work 15-20 hours a week during the school year and full-time during the summer

Nice To Haves

  • Previous technical internship, co-op, or research/relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementing Lean Manufacturing initiatives to optimize workflow and efficiency
  • Work collaboratively with the engineering team on assignments related to new equipment introductions
  • Analysis of product, processes, and technologies to shape best methods
  • Manufacturing process troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Dimensional analysis and reports for Production Part Approval Process
  • Shop floor layout revisions using CAD software
  • Implementation of employee submitted Continuous Improvement ideas for manufacturing
  • Creation and maintenance of manufacturing work instruction documents
