About The Position

The position provides business and social service receptionist duties for the Center; responds to telephone and in-person inquiries; maintains order and security.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a social service setting providing services to persons in crisis; comfort and competence in dealing with the public.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard.
  • Must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to telephone calls for staff and residents.
  • Answer the telephone promptly and courteously by saying, 'The Salvation Army Women and Children’s Center.'
  • Accurately and completely fill out telephone message slips and transfer calls to staff.
  • Place telephone message slips in staff mail slots.
  • Respect the Center's Confidentiality policy regarding client information.
  • Respect the absolute confidentiality of staff home telephone numbers.
  • Maintain awareness of security issues relating to the front desk, waiting area, and front exterior of the building.
  • Keep the lobby clear at all times, unless residents are waiting to see their Care Coordinator.
  • Regularly monitor video and audio security systems.
  • Supervise Center sign-in/sign-out procedures; ensures that each resident signs in and out and turns in room keys.
  • Supervise Center sign-up books for care coordinators, laundry, phones, medical services, domestic violence services, and computer class according to Center policy.
  • Maintain Daily Incident Book according to Center policy.
  • Maintain the Front Desk Alert book according to Center policy.
  • Contact law enforcement if necessary (after contacting On-Call staff and senior staff).
  • Alert the On-Call staff and Director of any situation that would damage building or contents, or threaten the safety and security of residents, e.g., equipment failure, leaks, etc.
  • Alert the Director of emergency weather situations.
  • Respond to and maintain records regarding residents’ behavior during evening and night duty hours in the Incident Book.
  • Support residents in the Center policies and rules.
  • Handle check-in and check out procedures for residents.
  • Assign new residents to rooms.
  • Ensure that new residents receive towels and a welcome packet.
  • Complete check-in/check-out paperwork as directed by policy.
  • Accompany new residents to assigned rooms.
  • Register cars belonging to new residents, if applicable.
  • Maintain work orders for housekeeping and maintenance staff on recently vacated rooms.
  • Conduct tours and orientation to the building for new residents as needed.
  • Respond to any reasonable request, immediate need, or crisis of Center residents.
  • Assess requests for shelter as to immediate need and appropriateness; respond within Center guidelines and policy; maintain awareness of special circumstances surrounding mental health and domestic violence situations.
  • Maintain records and keep statistical reports as required by The Salvation Army and other systems.
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership.
