About The Position

Faculty are responsible for providing high quality instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners so that each student may meet course outcomes and achieve their educational goals. An instructor is responsible for providing high quality instruction so that each student may meet course outcomes. Collaborate with the Dean and colleagues to improve the student learning experience. Being hired into the regular part-time instructor pool is not a guarantee of employment. Classes are assigned on an as-needed basis. Hours will vary each class and by term. The number of openings for instructors is dependent upon student enrollment.

Requirements

  • 2 years of direct welding industry experience
  • Completion of a WELD certificate or an Associate's Degree in Welding within the past 5 years.
  • Must be able to teach all of the following areas: Oxyacetylene equipment; safety, welding, cutting, fusion, brazing, alloys, general all position welding Basic and advanced shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), safety, all basic joint types, qualifications, fabrication Basic and advanced gas metal arc welding (GMAW); safety, all basic joint types, qualifications, fabrication Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW); safety, all basic joint types, qualifications, fabrication Metallurgy
  • Must obtain AWS welding certifications in relevant processes and curriculum within one (1) year of employment. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the position.
  • Candidates must successfully complete a series of evaluations, including: Written Exam: A minimum passing score of 75% is required. Practical Welding Exam: A minimum passing score of 75% is required. Teaching Demonstration: Required as part of the in-person interview process. The written exam is based on the American Welding Society’s SENSE Level I Welding Process Certification Test.
  • Only candidates who pass both the written and practical welding exams with a score of 75% or higher will be considered for an in-person interview. The in-person interview will include a teaching demonstration on a welding-related subject of the faculty's choice.

  • American Welding Society D1.1 and/or D1.3 Certifications
  • ASME Boiler and PV code Section IX certification
  • Amenable to teaching high school dual credit courses at off-site locations
  • Experience in online teaching in Brightspace or other Learning Management System (LMS)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for effectively preparing, teaching, grading, and assessing student learning in courses assigned.
  • Create and model a quality learning environment to support a diverse student population including students with disabilities or special learning needs.
  • Maintain student records and provide documentation for in-completes within established College timelines.
  • Utilize a variety of technology-based programs to access and input information related to student records and college/school/department processes.
  • Assist students with registration, advising, and graduation processes.
  • Structure classes and curriculum to correspond with program and course outcomes.
  • Prepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials,instructional media and other devices as appropriate.
  • Convene classes as scheduled and respond to student inquiries.
  • Assist students outside the classroom through posted office hours.
  • Attend in-service sessions, college/school/department meetings, graduation and convocation as required.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned
