About The Position

The Philosophy Department in the College of Arts & Sciences at Syracuse University seeks a part-time instructor of Philosophy to teach the main lecture of PHI 107, Theories of Knowledge and Reality, a 3 credit course, during Spring Semester 2026. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department. All positions and offers are subject to funding availability and enrollment Course Description: An introduction to major questions about knowledge and reality, such as the existence of God, the mind-body problem, free will and the nature and limits of knowledge. Historical and contemporary readings.

Requirements

  • ABD or PhD in Philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Preparation of lectures.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods.
  • Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Providing department forms for student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students, teaching assistants, and other faculty.
