About The Position

The Part-Time Instructor of Medical Assisting at Modesto Junior College is responsible for teaching Medical Assisting courses under the supervision of the Dean of Health Professions. The instructor will evaluate student progress, advise students on educational matters, and participate in activities aimed at enhancing student success. The Medical Assisting program is a one-year hybrid program that includes face-to-face labs. The successful candidate will contribute to a department focused on creating responsive curriculum and increasing student completion through equity strategies.

Requirements

  • Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience, or the equivalent.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
  • Five years or more experience as a certified medical assistant.
  • At least two years in a teaching position in an accredited medical assisting program.
  • Membership in the AAMA.
  • Knowledge of CAAHEP accreditation standards and California state laws governing medical assisting.
  • Possess computer skills to develop online education courses.
  • Ability to effectively instruct, supervise, and evaluate students in both classroom and practicum settings.
  • Commitment to instill critical thinking and assessment skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Education and/or experience in teaching Medical Assisting at the community college level.
  • Current knowledge of Medical Assisting practices.
  • Experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding of historical patterns of exclusion.
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom.
  • Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Medical Assisting courses in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, and class schedules.
  • Evaluate progress of students and advise them concerning educational matters.
  • Participate in activities that strengthen student success.
  • Supervise student practice of new skills.
  • Assist students with remedial skills practice as needed.
  • Maintain a comprehensive system of records for students in the clinical setting.
  • Assist with coordinating scheduling of pre and post conference meetings.
  • Provide orientation for students in preparation for clinical settings.
  • Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
  • Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations.
  • Engage in data inquiry and self-assessment to develop strategies for student success.
  • Participate in professional development activities to fulfill mandatory FLEX requirements.

Benefits

  • Hourly salary range: $71.89 to $114.93 for part-time instructors.
  • Doctorate salary range: $84.71 to $117.95.
