The Part-Time Instructor for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program (Pediatric Focus) is responsible for facilitating student learning and improving student success. Faculty members assess learning outcomes and their teaching effectiveness while adhering to ethical standards. They are expected to engage in professional development, maintain licensure, and participate in the college's operational success. The instructor will teach pediatric interventions and other courses in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program, following the approved curriculum.

  • Facilitate student learning and assess learning outcomes.
  • Engage in professional development.
  • Participate in collegial responsibilities.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Ensure safety in the learning environment.
  • Teach lecture and laboratory portions of pediatric interventions.
  • Graduate of an ACOTE-accredited program for occupational therapy or occupational therapy assistants.
  • Associate's Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) with a Bachelor's degree in a health care related field or education, or a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • At least three years of recent, relevant, full-time clinical experience in pediatrics.
  • If an Occupational Therapist (OT), one to two years of experience working with Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants.
  • Currently credentialed as an Occupational Therapist (OTR) or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
  • Current Michigan licensure in Occupational Therapy as OTR or COTA or eligible for Michigan licensure prior to hire.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Understanding of and commitment to community college teaching, mission, and philosophy.
  • Innovative, flexible, and positive teaching style.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and professional journals.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions.
  • Ability to integrate computer applications into teaching.
  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy or related health care field.
  • Teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Familiarity with computer-based instruction and distance learning.
