About The Position

The Part-time Instructor, College and Career Readiness provides instruction and retention strategies to students in basic skills and retention strategies to students in adult high school equivalency programs. This position reports directly to the Program Director, College & Career Readiness, and has the following responsibilities:

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Ability to teach basic mathematics, reading, and writing
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with MS Office
  • Commitment to instructional technology
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environment
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college
  • Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies: Translating College purpose, values, and vision into organizational action, Collaborating and facilitating, Creating and innovating, Anticipating and responding to change, Providing vision and leadership, Assessment of student learning, Engagement and assessment of successful student retention models

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience teaching adults
  • Spanish a plus

Responsibilities

  • Teaches basic skills and high school equivalency courses
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies and methodologies to produce engaging and relevant learning environments
  • Create a learning environment that motivates, recognizes achievement, and produces a sense of community
  • Utilize resources appropriately to promote student learning
  • Demonstrate awareness of student needs and provides direction in a timely manner
  • Use informal assessments regularly to provide students with timely feedback
  • Utilize resources and technology appropriately to promote student learning through the use of contextualized instruction
  • Develops relationships and rapport with students that promotes student success
  • Promote transition to curriculum and continuing education pathways
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with students, supervisor, and CCR staff
  • Maintain and submit accurate records in a timely manner
  • Follows DCCC and College and Career Readiness policies and procedures
  • Participate in professional development as needed or requested to remain currency in the field
  • Maintain professionalism and continually build knowledge and skills
  • Performs other tasks as assigned that support the mission and initiatives of the college
