About The Position

This position is an on-campus, part-time, up-to 19-hour appointment based in Champaign, Illinois. The Part-Time Hourly Mail Services Clerk is responsible for collecting and distributing parcels from within Parkland College, preparing outgoing mail and packages for shipment, and receiving incoming mail and packages from the United States Postal Service (USPS) and private shipping services. The PT Hourly Mail Services Clerk is a part-time, appointment on a schedule established by the Print Shop and Mailroom Services Manager. This position requires excellent customer service both internally and externally. The position involves frequent handling of confidential items and lifting.

Requirements

  • Verbal and mathematical skills sufficient to read accurately, count items, calculate rates, and communicate with others.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift packages over 60 pounds.
  • Prior work experience of six (6) months in a similar work environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn the proper use of mail processing equipment.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Sort incoming USPS mail by department and deliver to appropriate locations.
  • Pick up and distribute intercampus deliveries.
  • Collect outgoing mail and packages to be sent using the USPS or private shipping services, process each item with the proper rates, and use postal equipment.
  • Answer telephone calls for the mail room.
  • Assist shipping and receiving functions.
  • Unload trucks daily.
  • Other duties as assigned.
